In need of some TLC

Thanks to the people here who have helped us organise our first trip to Japan - it's the best place we have ever visited and we have only just left Tokyo and arrived in Kyoto where we are based now for 4 days. We have hired bikes in Kyoto and enjoyed a night cycle in the rain this evening around Gion area and got very lost after that. Some serious sightseeing is in order now and we were just wondering if there are any guides around to take us or meet us at the most important temples and shrines. We don't usually enjoy tours but feel now a little out on a limp and sick of reading travel guides and would love to learn more from an expert while at the sights. We would need an English speaking guide if you can recommend anyone very knowledgeable. Thanks for any help you can offer.

You'll probably find it's too late to organise something now - most guides require at least a week's notice, however, here's a list:

Alternatively, you could go for an evening meal at the lively 'A Bar' and see if you can find a friendly local to show you around:

It's a cheap, smokey, but very friendly izakaya, where the food is fresh and the beer flows freely. You're likely to be seated at whichever table has some available seats, so it's a great way to meet people. Don't be put off by the seemingly dodgy location and rundown building it occupies, it's a great place and they're very used to foreign visitors.

I recommend a walking tour from Yasaka Shrine to Kiyomizu Temple.

It is held only on Tueday from 10:30 to 12:30.

It costs only 2000yen and reservation is not required.

Please see detailed information on this website.

Check out these links:

This company requires one day notice:

If you google 'Kyoto Walking Tour' you'll get all sorts of hits on example tours that you can do yourself.
