Besides Train, Other ways to get from Kyoto to Osaka (namba)

Hi, as I will be traveling with 2 kids with 2 luggages, are there other means of transport to get from Kyoto area to Osaka Swissotel Nankai besides the train?

Any private taxi company that offers this service? I know there are some taxi companies that will provide transport to Airports, wondering if they will drop off at any other places in Osaka?

Thanks in advance.

Taxi cost is quite expensive. Consider using luggage forwarding service to send your bags from your Kyoto hotel direct to Swissotel. Then you can just take the train to Osaka Station. If you don't want a further transfer to the subway, take a taxi from Osaka to Namba.

I strongly agree with the previous post. Send your luggages a day early using takkyubin. Ask your hotel front desk and they will be able to help you fill out forms and tell you the price. There is a cutoff time ( usually around 1 or 2 pm depending on the location) for shipping next day. I have personally used this service and sent my luggage from Toba to Kyoto. Very convenient.

Here is the website. kuronekoyamato.co.jp/english/…takkyu.html

As far as catching a bus from Kyoto to Osaka is concerned, I am not aware of a bus route that is solely dedicated to Kyoto/Osaka. However, there are buses going through Kyoto to Osaka from Tokyo, Sendai etc. Generally these routes have limited schedule (i.e. you may need to leave Kyoto super early or super late). Let me ask my friend in Kyoto and see what I can find.

Thank you both and appreciate your suggestions. Sounds like a good idea. Will check out Takkyubin.

I have asked a few friends living in Kyoto and all of them said there is no single bus route leaving Kyoto to Osaka.

It might be worth enquiring about the cost of a taxi. Fares in Kyoto didn't seem outrageous to me and Kyoto to Osaka, centre to centre, is only 27 miles. Your hotel should be able to give you a price. Sending two bags plus train fares will cost around 6,000 yen. With children it might be worth paying rather more for the convenience of being driven there.

Thanks for all the replies again! :)

Just wondering if the luggages (delivered by Takkyubin) at the destination hotel before we arrive, can the hotel receive the luggages for us? Or do we have to be there to receive them?

Thanks much!

Btw, has anyone used the luggage delivery service yourself before? Reliable?

Appreciate any feedback. :)
