One Day Osaka - Pretour

My mom and her friends (seniors) has one day in Osaka next week on their own. They're on a tour but due to some flight arrangements, they are arriving one day before the tour starts. Their tour itinerary in Osaka will cover Osaka Castle and Shinsaibashi.

Appreciate any suggestions on places that they could go and things to do during the day on their own?

Thank you!

It is worth visiting in the Umeda underground city. It is very wide. There is even a river, too. In Umeda, the snack park in the underground of The Hanshin Department Store (depa-chika) is a tourist spot. Ikayaki is very popular food there.

Tsuruhashi is the biggest Korean Town in Japan. There are a lot of Yakiniku restaurants. A delicious Kimchi can be bought.

The Tempozan area is nice, with the Aquarium, shopping mall and the giant ferris wheel. There is also a beautiful art gallery there.

<<Where is the Umeda Underground city ????>>

Let me put it this way: all the railroad/subway stations are connected together via underground shopping/restaurant malls. So if you access to Umeda riding subway, you'll know you are already in one part of it there. I suggest surfacing to the ground level instead of walking underground soon after you reach Umeda. Note Umeda has 5 stations: two for non-JR trains, three for subway lines. That way, you could get your bearings faster than otherwise.

The Osaka Aquarium is the biggest in Japan and one of the biggest in the world. I spent a good couple of hours here and thought it was amazing. You can see plenty of wildlife as well as fish including capybara, seals and penguins. They wil also post feeding times which is worth seeing. Would also highly recommend Nara - its not that far from Kyoto and its one of the most stunning places I went to in Japan. Kyoto is also close but there is so much to see and do there so it would probably be better to stick to more compact places.

Hope they have a great time
