KL during Chinese New Year

Intend to spend CNY (in February 2010) in KL with my family.

Will the Pavillion Shopping Centre and Suria KLCC malls (especially the eateries) be open for business on the eve, 1st and 2nd day of the Lunar New Year?

Any and all advice and recommendation will be hugely appreciated!

Yes, those places that hire many non-Chinese staff will still be open as usual esp around the tourist areas. The Suria KLCC mall and park will be packed filled with Filipino maids, Bangla/Myanmar construction workers and other foreign workers as every year. The rest of KL is usually haunted and emptied of vehicles, very good for driving and thats probably the only time of the year when there are no traffic jams (until the crowd comes back!)

Last year there were lots of stores in Suria closed first day of CNY some smaller stores had 2 days off. Was quite surprised. But Im sure you will find lots of local places open.

Hi mundgen,

Yes, both Pavillion and Suria KLCC would be opened on those days.

And as sunshinegirlMalaysia mentioned, some stores would be closed but the bigger ones - anchor and major tenants - would be opened, though they may close early on the CNY eve.

On eateries at those places - the foodcourts would be opened. But again, just like some stores there, some food "stalls" in the food court and restaurants would be closed.

Hope the above helps a bit. Enjoy your trip! :-)

I'm also heading KL and staying in KL from 14 to 16 Feb 2010. I am staying in Melia so wondering is Times Square open during Chinese New Year.

Though of going to outskirt mall like Mid Valley and maybe day trip to Genting or Cameron.

Any comment?
