Kuala Lumpur Airport in transit

Hi there,

Need some advice:

We are flying to Melbourne from Europe and are landing in Kuala Lumpur at 8am and leave at 7pm.

Is there much to do at KLIA or should we leave the airport and visit something close by? Any suggestion?

Also if we do leave the Airport, will we need visa's to get out of the airport and will our luggage be kept or do they have locker facilities for luggage?

My sister hates just sitting around and I know 10 hours will drive her insane!

Look forward to hearing any comments or suggestions.

I am flying with Malaysia airlines to Hong Kong via kl both flights land and leave from terminal M. I have never done this before. Will our bags automatically be switched over? The lay over is only 1 hr 40 mins. Do we have to go through immigration ect?

Hi Ozie

Worry not. Your layover will give heaps of time to go into the city. Either jump onto the bus or take a taxi to Bukit Bintang where you'll be able to shop to your heart's content, eat lots of great food, sightsee, perhaps have a manicure & pedicure and have your hair done. When you return to the airport you can take a taxi or the monorail to Sentral station and take the train from there to KLIA which would probably be the quickest way at that time of day. If you do it that way you'd only need to start your return trip about 3.30 but if you take a taxi all the way it would be better to leave at around 3pm in case of traffic problems.

chrisletrek: Your bags will be checked through to Hong Kong. There will be ground staff on hand to help you, if you have any problems. KLIA is an easy airport to navigate, everything is well signed.

Rawtalent, thank you. On our way back from Hong Kong we have a further layover of 4:40 on our way to Phuket. Although we have booked with Malaysia air the aircraft from Hong Kong is operated by Cathay Pacific. Our onward flight from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket is with Malaysia Air. Do you know if we will have to clear immigration and collect luggage and then check back in gain?
