Best time to visit

We are thinking of booking a trip, to spend a week in KL followed by a week in Kota Kinabalu . We have leave from work in September this year, or we can have June/July next year. My question is really concerning climate- rainfall and crowds.Thank you in anticipation of any help in this matter.

Hi fellow dumpling!

It is pretty much a muchness. Both are good times to visit. As a city Kuala Lumpur is always crowded, Kota Kinabalu never so.

happy planning!

Very little in it. July possibly 'slightly' busier in KK than June or Sept.

Agree with Mitch and KR. Not much difference and KL is big enough to spread the crowds. Never a bad time to visit Malaysia and if the weather turns nasty it usually doesn't last for too long. Have a great trip.

Climate-wise, marginally cooler in Sept .... probably less hazy too.

Sadly, June - September is probably the worst time to come. This is the time when the farmers in Sumatra (or some say the institutionalized commercial plantations) practice slash and burn.

This results in haze that drifts over to Singapore and Malaysia.

October might be a better month to come, or at least towards the end of September.

June to Sept not the rainy season hence why hazy ..... This haze is not to be taken lightly especially if you're asthmatic or have respiratory issues. There have been times when I can barely see past 2 miles and my apartment's on top of a hill!!

The health and vision issues are the 2 main concerns during this time. Have been there when this happens and did not affect me in a respiratory sense but did block some vision in the distance. If you don't have health issues like asthma then with a Dr's check before you book see what they think. Its your call ,many tourists still come and for most it is just a bit annoying.
