Help with how long and where to go

Hello,

Trying to plan a surprise trip for my other half.

Just booked tickets for the F1 and going to sort out flights next week.

I plan to arrive wednesday and stay till Monday with the f1 and seeing Kuala lumpur.

But looking to go somewhere else after. I know my partner would love Singapore, but is it expensive?

Or does anyone recommend somewhere prettier? Or maybe a couple of days in Singapore then somewhere else.

Many thanks,

Flick

Well it really does depend on what you like. Singapore is a bit like Kuala Lumpur but more touristy and more expensive. The pound is not getting a great rate, so things seem very expensive!! Plus distances mean 2 days can easily get lost in travelling.

What is your definition of 'pretty'.

Thank you for the reply.

Think I will leave Singapore and just do the 1 city.

Maybe somewhere quieter, in UK we love going to visit the countryside and do walking. I'm trying to search through forums and look at wikipedia.

I noticed somewhere beginning with a L with a cable car but can't remember place now. Also noticed Taman Negara National Park.

You would probably enjoy a day trip to Malacca, or an evening trip to see the fireflies in kuala selangor

So you mean Langkawi? Langkawi is an island north from kuala lumpur. Is a quiet and beautiful place. Maybe you could fly there from KL.

Singapore I found its really only the hotels that are expensive, however since you get more for your dollar in Malaysia you might find it costs a bit more. We found too we couldn't wait to get to Malaysia after Singapore as we were getting only 20% more for our dollar whereas Malaysia was 300% ;)

Langkawi is ok - personally I would pick Singapore if I had only one choice. Langkawi is nice but there isn't a whole lot to do and the beaches are full of mites that bite you or jellyfish.

Have you thought about maybe Penang - culture, heritage, lots to do and great food (even though I am biased and KL is the best food) cheap to get around and so easy to get to with airlines and very close.

Have a great trip

There is a cable car in Langkawi and another around Genting. The first is truly beautiful and a lovely experience, the second is a touristy gimmick to take folks to a theme park / casino. Langkawi is great very beautiful but there is just not to do there.

I loved Singapore once, now it is very much as Jacks describes, high rise, touristy and just no soul - a bit like Katie Price now. if you want prettier this is not the place, touristier [if there is such a word] but not prettier.

Taman Negara is 8 hours north of Kuala Lumpur - can't fly there or go by train, it is bus or car.

Asia is Asia so enjoy some of the things you can't see at home. Some options around Kuala Lumpur for your to research . . . .

Wow! Thank you all so much. I will do more research tonight and also look at Panang. With the F1 on I'm thinking staying longer in Kuala Lumpur now especially with travellingmitch's recomended places. The Wednesday we land in morning, Thursday half a day for pit walk, half a day for practise on fri and then sat/sun would be full days.
