Best Weekend Adventures from Manila???

I will be working in Manila for several weeks and would like to get out of the city on weekends for outdoor adventures. I love snorkeling, kayaking and hiking. Where are the best places to go that I can easily get to and get back to Manila in a weekend? Is it possilbe to make a trip to the rice terraces in a single weekend?

Yes you can get out of Manila and back... just get used to the traffic. Plan on an overnight trip to the rice terraces. Hotels are very reasonable. Public transportation is also reasonable so try to upgrade to the best one as you will still find it inexpensive and comfortable.

Check out some of the postings and you can get an idea from experts as to where to go and what to do. I live in California and go to the Philippines twice a year. Lots of fun and great golfing.

Will be in the Woodlands area in your neck of the woods next week. Hope the weather is great as we will play TPC.

Hello there! If you like snorkelling and kayaking, you could go for a weekend trip to Batangas, 2.5 hours away from manila, where they have beaches where you do your water activities. You could check out this place in Batangas: http://www.laluzresort.com.

Anilao is another beach/diving destination near Manila.

For snorkeling you can go to Puerto Galera, which is 4-5hrs away from Manila. For hiking you can go to Taal Volcano and Mt. Pinatubo. You can stay in Angeles City as a jump-off point to Mt. Pinatubo

Hi Slide!

Banaue

You can have your trip to Banaue on a weekend - Friday night. Travel to Banaue is 9 hours from Manila via Autobus with terminal at España, Sampaloc, Manila. Be sure to leave Banaue with the last trip to Manila of Autobus Sunday afternoon.

Tagaytay

Try also Tagaytay City which is just 3 hours from Manila. Here you can hike Taal Volcano.

Baguio City

Another weekend escape is Baguio City. Travel is 4 1/2 hours using Deluxe Buses of Victory Liner in Cubao. Travel with regular aircon buses is 5-6 hours.

Puerto Galera

Snorkeling on a weekend is great at Puerto Galera. Travel time is about 5 hours or more.

Boracay or Panglao

The best for diving and snorkel is Boracay or Panglao islands. But it's a bit expensive there. The best diving site near panglao is Balicasag Island. Travel time by plane Manila-Tagbilaran is 1 hour, same as Manila-Caticlan. Tagbilaran is your jump-off point to Panglao Island while Caticlan is your jump-off point to Boracay Island, 30 mins boat ride.

Thanks.

You can also visit these places for a weekend getaway:

1. Subic-about 3 hours (110 kilometers north) from Manila. It is a former US naval base in the Philippines and is now a Freeport economic and tourist zone. You can do some interesting wreck dives and do some hiking in the rainforest. There are also some good shopping and entertainment.

2. Hidden Valley in Laguna (72 kms from Manila) is a good place for relaxation after a busy week. It is secluded and naturally landscaped and has thermal pools amidst tropical plants and trees. There is a waterfalls and you can do some trekking while communing with nature. Very relaxing though a bit expensive!

Boracay is only 1 hour away from Manila, and the beaches are far superior to Puerta Galera.
