Makati is a great area to stay in. I would read the reviews here on TA to determine if that hotel is suitable to you. It really depends on your budget as well as to which hotel to recommend. Try to choose a hotel close to Greenbelt where all the restos shopping are located.
I have stayed at the City Garden Hotel twice, the hotel is fine and relatively safe to walk around at most hours Rockwell Power Plant Mall is about ten minutes walk away in one direction and Greenbelt is ten minutes in the other direction. However, for the price you are paying I doubt it would compare to what you could get at Hyatt & Casino which is far more expensive. The only downside I would say is that the rooms are a bit on the small side and its slap bang in a busy (traffic wise) location.
I notice you put “single” in the title of your post, and say you do not wish to be far from the “action” but it really depends what you are looking for here. Some say this is a good thing others may consider this a bad thing; for a couple of days in Manila this is not really an issue.
City Gardens is fine, a bit more upscale is St. Giles almost next door to it...you also have Oxford and cheaper is Durbin Inn..all in same area. If you like bars and chasing skirts..this is the place. Forget about Greenbelt for shopping and restos if you are single on the chase, the above area is for you for a short visit to Manila or Makati. You can get a taxi for P70 to greenbelt, where I may suggest Havana is a great place for single and mingle..its a lot of fun.
All the restos and shops are NOT in Greenbelt, Rockwell as pointed out is close s well to city garden area. Look at A. Venue as well...
....lefto, good advise
....however, what if he might not be into chasing skirts. What if he is into tripod?
....I suggest the OP be more specific of his orientation so TA experts can address relevant info to the poster.
...enjoy the Motherland.
Thank you very much for your help!
Reason I put single traveler is because I will not have to consider needs of others. It's just me.....
And yes, my intention is to booze it up and chase skirt. I don't intend to do much shopping so I don't need to be close to the mall. Better to be close to the bars and restaurants!
I stayed at the Isabelle Royal last year in July,
At the end of P. burgos street, a 5 minute walk from skirt and booze.
Fantastic views of Quezon, balcony included.
About 1600php a night. 7/11 around the corner, great mall across the road that has a fantastic hamburger joint.
Enjoy your stay!!!!!
It would depend on your budget, really. Since you're considering Hyatt, I'm presuming that you're willing to consider higher-end options. If so, then staying in Makati would be great - places like Greenbelt and Fort Bonifacio would just be nearby. Try Intercontinental or Manila Peninsula. For cheaper options - Tower Inn, BA Towers, A.Venue Hotel.
If you want to stay in Malate, then there are a lot of options - but if you're not staying in Hyatt or Pan Pacific (which are right smack in the middle of Malate), then don't expect anything fancy. Just basic, sometimes old and dingy, but functional accommodations.
Think hard whether you want to be based in Makati or Malate, since I find taking the cabs in Manila a bit of a hassle because the traffic can get really bad.
I'm making the first leg of my trip in Makati in November and am travelling alone and looking pretty much at what your agenda OP. I was looking at Hotel Durban. Any ideas on that area, anyone? @Nortius-i heard the area on P. borgus is somewhat shady? No big deal if you're not an idiot?
Thanks in advance
i would recommend st. giles hotel in makati... its right across the restaurant north park. Really good location along makati ave and nice rates. Hotel is brand new.
