NAIA Yellow Metered Taxis

I will be arriving in Manila on Dec. 23 in the afternoon. SInce it is the holidays, I am expecting everyone to be out and about and traffic will be a nighmare as it often is in the holidays. I have decided to forgo the usual airport pickup but opted to just take a taxi. So what can one expect to pay from NAIA to Alabang near the Town Center.

Secondly, I found the following threads on the internet regarding the yellow metered airport cab:

passengertales.com/new/…

The main poster seems to have nothing but kudos for his expreience, but the subsequent posts (sorry it is in tagalog, but some are in english) all talk of having been ripped off. Granted the thread is 2008 and things may have change since. So what can one expect when using a taxi from the airport? Do you fall in line, pay a fixed sum, get your receipt and expect a trouble free ride?

Thanks all.

A great number of these yellow airport metered taxis are scumbags based on my experience. Not that I'm telling you the white ones are a better option.

Hi guys

I am going to Manila soon, arriving from Singapore thus will land on Terminal 1. Usually a pick-up is arranged but this time friend of mine ask me to take taxi. I heard and read many mixed reviews about taxi scam so would appreciate to have some help and sound advise.

I am going to MOA, arriving around 4PM.

We have never had a problem with the official yellow taxis. Our experience is with Terminal 3. We often try to get a white metered taxi but that's a bit riskier. Our advice is to make a call, fake or real, to a friend saying that you are on your way in taxi (give taxi number) and that you'll be there soon. That lets the taxi driver know that others know the situation. This deters any thought of serious monkey-business.

Whilst taxis are generally safe if you are concerned you could get a coupon taxi which is at a fixed price and generally more expensive unless there is heavy traffic or hire one of the recommended forum drivers.

Hi,

I'll be arriving around Xmas time this year to NAIA 3 terminal and no one is going to pick me up.

What taxi would you recommend without me getting ripped off?

My experience before, some 7 years back, was I rode a white taxi, then the driver kept on asking for chocolate bars or anything that I can give her (she's a lesbian), so I just gave her a bar of choc and additional 100 pesos.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.

@12Dec its all discussed in this thread already. Please READ.

Ill say it again. Your choice is a yellow metered taxi (make sure they put the meter on) or a coupon taxi (fixed price). Its very simple.
