shopping hours in manila?

Hi,

I'm trying to plan my itinerary for my trip to the Philippines next year and plan to stop by Manila only for the purpose of shopping.

Are places like SM and Greenhills open on Sundays?

And will they be open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday?

Thanks in advance!!

shopping is relatively cheap in manila and SM and greenhills are usually cheaper than other high end malls

it might not be ideal to go shopping on a good friday because most shops will be closed.

some will open on easter though.

shopping hours are from 10-8

Rejoice! Shopping hours here are unlike those in Australia. ( I vividly remember praying that our tours end soon so I could catch the shops when we visited Sydney, and on a separate trip, how thankful I was to discover shops open til after midnite only at the Crown casino complex in Melbourne!).

Here in Manila, normal mall hours are 10am-9pm daily, though this December there will be days when the malls close at midnight. I guess you'll be visiting end of March to April 2007. Then the regular hours should follow. And that is 7 days a week. No half days, no closing at 4pm, no extended hours on thursdays or whatever (can you feel my Australia shopping frustration?). Though one explained to me why the shopping hours there are as such. And I understand :)

SM departments stores are usually open on Black Saturday, as surprisingly, new movies open on Black Saturday as well. They are usually closed on Good Friday as most malls and department stores are. On Black Saturday, there are still some small shops within the malls that are closed, but mostly all are back to normal by Sunday.

As for Greenhills, if you are referring to the "tiangge" - In places like the "tiangge" (bazaar/market), they usually open before 10am, specially during shopping season, shoppers go there as early as 8am, which explains the "always full" parking. Note though that the Greenhills "tiangge" is not an all year round thing. However, there are still the regular stalls and kiosks, plus the shops of the different malls within the Greenhills complex.

The other shopping areas and malls basically follow the same operating hours: 10am-9pm for malls (some close at 10pm), and for shopping havens like Greenhills and Divisoria/Tutuban from about 9am-9pm.

But in case you'll be travelling to some tourist spots during the Holy Week, you'll be surprised that there are markets and shops cashing in on tourists even on Good Friday. Baguio City is busiest during Good Friday, as well as Boracay. So if shopping is really your passion, there will still be places for you.

It's always best to shop on a weekday and never on weekends to avoid the crowd. If you can't do it on a weekday, try shopping at opening hours, usually 10am.
