Bodrum Cruise Port

Our Celebrity Cruise will be in port in Bodrum on Nov. 16 from 7 AM-6 PM. We would rather not take one of the ship excursions but would like to be able to walk to interesting sights. We are basically interested in sightseeing. Can we get around on foot or should we hire a local guide?

No need to hire a guide - just take a taxi into Bodrum centre(or you can walk in) and look round for yourselves. It's not that big.

You don't need to hire a guide. As Jakki says Bodrum is not very big so you can find your way round easy enough. You can see the castle and the remains of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, which was one of the seven wonders of the world once, there isn't much there but it is nice to see anyway.

Have a look at this site for things to see on the Bodrum peninsula - all can be accessed by public transport ( local dolmus (bus station) or taxi and don't need a guide.

You certainly do not need a guide if you want to stay in Bodrum. The Mausoleum of Helicarneous (sp) is about a 10 minute walk from the harbor. The ancient theater is about a five minute walk from the Mausoleum. It is uphill but certanly doable. The marketplace is to the east of the marina and Castle St. Peter and the Underwater Archeaology Museum is there as well.

We are doing Bodrum, Rhodes, Mykonos, Athens and Santorini on our own. Have booked private tours for Ephesus, Marmaris and Naples.
