Rent a Gulet without a crew - possible?

We're planning a week boat rental from Bodrum with a group of friends (European and American) in September. We're debating wether to go with a crew or without. We can find bare-boats and catamarans for rent without a crew, but we don't trust ourselves with the sailing aspect. A Gulet would be perfect, since most of those can't sail anymore anyway. However, we can't seem to find any Gulets for rent without a crew.

Does anybody know if it is possible to rent a Gulet without a crew?

If so, do we need any type of special paperwork or other arrangements?

Renting a gulet without a crew is akin to renting a full service hotel without staff :-) To answer your question, no, it is not possible to charter a gulet without the crew. Even though some do not sail (and many do sail), it would invalidate the insurance policy to lease it without crew, and gulets are actually quite tricky to maneuver. Bear in mind too that in Turkish waters, the gulets anchor stern-to, and it takes a lot of experience to choose the right anchorage, anchor length/position and line placement for safe positioning.

What you could do is find a gulet operator that is willing to let you be a bit hands-on with the sailing and anchoring - it's magical to sail a 30 ton schooner yet without all of the responsibilities involved. Or consider hiring a skippered sailing boat or catamaran.
