Rainy Day Suggestions

We are scheduled to be staying in Avon next week and the current forecast calls for rain and/or thunderstorms for most of the week. We went this same week last year and it was gorgeous so just an example of how we can't control the weather. We have 6 adults and no kids and are looking for some suggestions on what to do. Money is a bit tight.

Thanks in advance!

First of all, the weather changes by the day if not hour in coastal Virginia and North Carolina, it can be frustrating. It is too far out to call it a wash, chances are if it does rain, it will not be all day everyday.

But in the event of rain-take a trip to the Aquarium near Manteo, Shipwreck musuem near the ferry docks in Hatteras. Always shops to visit even if you don't want to buy anything.

If it is not pouring, maybe just not a beach day, take the ferry to Ocracoke. Wander around the island and see the British Cemetary, Preservation Society Museum, Springer's Point, the lighthouse, and shops-100% Free Day!

We always make sure we bring some cards and games to play in our rental house on rainy days. We have some of the best memories just enjoying laughing and being on vacation.

Have a great time not matter what the weather.

We have been staying in Avon for years. On rainy days we usually go to the movies (its a small movie theater but we always have a blast) or go to Studio 12 to paint some pottery. As stated, you can take the ferry to Ocracoke and vising the Graveyards of the Allantic Museum on the way. We also usually bring a big jigsaw puzzle and board games to play too. It sounds corny but when do you ever get to play board games at home? I like to bring books to read and just enjoy the solitude of a rainy day with a good book and a nice cup of tea or a glass of wine. Remember a rainy day in the Outerbanks beats a sunny day at work:)
