Girls Time: San Antonio or Austin???

Please help ! I am looking to spend about three days with my adult daughter. We like spa, dining, shopping , perhaps some theater. Just want something fun and different. I have heard that Austin is amazing. I am confused now that I am reading about San Antonio. I do NOT want to deal with a car. We want to go in October or November . Please help me decide where I should go to have a special weekend with my daughter . Thanks !

Austin has great shopping. There is a large outlet center halfway between Austin and SA (you would need a car). Lake Austin spa is supposedly one of the best spa's in the country (don't know from personal experience - but I'd bet its pricey). Dining and theater are also top notch. The only problem is trying to narrow down your choices.

Austin! October and November are two of my favorite months in Austin. The weather is generally nice, you can sit outside and enjoy dinner, and you can walk all over without sweating to death (most of the time).

If you just want to stay downtown for a few days, it's easily doable without a car. You didn't mention a budget for lodging, but the new W Hotel is in a great location for shopping and dining. It is also close to one of downtown's best spas - milk+honey - http://milkandhoneyspa.com/

I have been to Lake Austin Spa with my mom and it was wonderful! It's outside of downtown though, so you will need a car to get there, or be willing to pay for a rather expensive cab ride.

There are a couple of different options for theater, but Austin doesn't have a theater district like Chicago or New York -

Bass Performance Hall is on the University of Texas campus and hosts Broadway touring shows - http://texasperformingarts.org/events

Paramount Theater is a great, historic theater in downtown, but it has not released it's full schedule for next season yet. They typically do more talks, readings, concerts, and one-person shows than plays or musicals, but always interesting stuff - http://www.austintheatre.org/

Zach Theater does lots of local shows and some touring performances - http://www.zachtheatre.org/

There is the Long Center, also. They have opera, symphony and ballet. I think Oct/Nov is symphony season.

You may enjoy the comedy at Esther's Follies, it's a great show.
