Sunday in Austin

Hello.

I will be visiting Austin the week before Christmas for a few days. My full day there will be on a Sunday. Any recommendations on what to do in the City itself? Am visiting surrounding areas and San Antonio on other days. Will the shops in SoCo be open?

I really love the outdoors so am open to outdoor activities.

I realize my question is very general and I'm usually good at researching and planning for my destinations. However, I'm a little baffled here. There was a time when I wanted to do a "foodie" tour but this does not appear to be in operation any longer. Any suggestions/recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks much.

Shops on South Congress should be open, but you will also be here during the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar - http://www.armadillobazaar.com/ - featuring local artists, crafts, live music and food. It's an Austin holiday tradition and lots of fun.

Austin Eat Food Tours seem to be up and running and have spots open for the Sunday you're in town - http://www.austineatsfoodtours.com/

+1 For Armadillo Christmas Bazaar - this is a juried art show with Texas music. Great fun. We also like the Blue Genie Art Bazaar https://bluegenieartbazaar.com/

Thank you all for your responses. Unfortunately, I will be arriving the weekend after the armadillo bazaar :-(.

I will look into the blue genie art bazaar however.

I also found about about the http://austintrailoflights.org/, so will look into this on Sunday evening. Also discovered the SoCo shops are open until 6pm on Sundays, for anyone else that may have this question.

Mr Ted, thanks for the info on the food tour. Guess I confused this with the SA tour, which is no longer in operation. Not sure I will do the Austin tour...rather pricey. Even NOLA was $20 less.

tejashombre, I wasn't aware that Wholefoods originated in Austin. Good info. I think I will check out the downtown store, if not just to just walk around to say I was there :-)

Looking forward to my first visit to Texas.

The Armadillo and Blue Genie Bazaars both end on Dec. 24, so if you're here the weekend after Armadillo, you will miss both, and the Trail of Lights, which ends on the 22nd. I'm guessing you meant you would be here BEFORE the Armadillo Bazaar begins on the 17th? Is that right?

The Whole Foods Flagship store downtown is wonderful, but please keep in mind that it is a functioning grocery store, so around the holidays it is crazy with people shopping for their holiday meals and festivities. It can often take 15 or 20 minutes just to get into and out of the parking garage during holiday weeks. Walk there, if you can.

+ 1 for the Austin Eat Food Tour. I've done two of their tours and enjoyed the both.

I will be in town on Dec 14 -15 so yes, I will arrive Before the Bazaar -lol. I intend to do as much walking as possible in Austin and leaving my vehicle at the hotel. Luckily I don't have to shop for groceries :-).

I'm sure the food tour is wonderful however, I'm also paying for my 22 year old daughter and the expenses add up.

Thanks again.

Blue Genie is free and should appeal to a 22 year old.
