New Year's Eve

Hi - we will be in Austin for NYE and are trying to find some place to ring in the new year. We are not interested in fighting the crowds on 6th street (we are in our 40s), but I haven't been able to find any events elsewhere. Any suggestions?

Here is a partial list:

http://events.austin360.com/austin_tx/events/austin+new+years+events

The main city event is at Auditorium Shores. This includes fireworks and, of course, lots of music. But outside of that, NYE is not widely celebrated in Austin. UT is on break and the city more or less empties out during the holidays. Downtown hotels often host parties that countdown at midnight. The party at the Four Seasons might be what you're looking for. It's away from the crowds and will attract an older crowd. This year the music is by Murphy's InLaws. They are an acoustic duo so it will be VERY low key. You can sample their music here:

Enjoy Austin!

Thanks Brad, but I think that will be a little too low key for us :-)

I had already reviewed Austin 360 prior to posting, but didn't see anything. Are there any good nightclubs, bars, lounges outside of downtown? We used to enjoy the Highball on Lamar, but I understand that it is closed for renovations.

LOL. So you're in your 40's but not dead, eh? :)

The best thing to do is check the Austin Chronicle website later in the month. Many NYE events will not be publicized until the weekend before. The AC comes out on Thursdays, and the Dec 26 issue will no doubt have complete listings.

Below is the link for Austin Chronicle entertainment weekly magazine. On home page go over to left and click on E-Edition. There are some NYE ads throughout. Enjoy.

Bumping this for next year because it's a very nice list to refer to since it's hard to find out who is having parties:
