Visiting April 9-11

We are trying to visit Austin on April 9 and 10 but all downtown hotels appear to be booked. Anyone know why? We fly in to Houston on the 9th so now I am not sure how to plan. Wanted to spend a few days in Austin, then Fredericksburg, then San Antonio. Thanks for any advice.

Check out the La Quinta on 11th street. It is still walking distance to downtown, but far enough away that it might have availability. It is not great but is OK. I have stayed there a number of times.

I appreciate that and I will check in it. I am trying to figure out if there is some major event going in, as we can adjust our days slightly if so. Anyone know?

There are actually four large conferences based in Austin that week and weekend.

There is almost always something going on in Austin and there are never enough hotel rooms downtown. With some new hotel construction underway, hopefully the situation will improve in the coming years, but I'm guessing it's a build it and they will come scenario. For now though, I just did a quick search and saw rooms available at the La Quinta mentioned above for your dates, but also at the Extended Stay on 6th and Guadalupe. The Extended Stay is a very basic hotel, but it is in an excellent location for exploring downtown Austin. I also saw availability at the Hyatt and Embassy Suites just south of the river (Lady Bird Lake), which is also a good location for exploring downtown and South Congress.
