Resort Hotel in good location on Austin

We will be coming to Austin for the first time in late July for 7 days. We are a senior, active couple looking for a nice resort type place with a nice pool, fitness center etc. We will be taking in the sites in Austin and in the evenings want to try the many fine restaurants and music venues. We were told about the Omni Barton Creek Resort and spa but it seems like it is a bit of a ride into Austin and we would like to be closer. Any insight anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Barton Creek Resort and spa is slightly out of town but the closest true resort. In the downtown area you could look at the Four Seasons, not a resort but a lovely hotel that has many amenities and a great location for sampling Austin.

Welcome to Austin!

How far is the Barton Creek Resort to downtown Austin by car?

Yankeetransplant is correct. The only resorts are Barton Creek, Hyatt Lost Pines and Travaasa. All three require a car. Four Seasons (downtown) is beautiful. My daughter just stayed at Embassy Suites (downtown) which is across from the Hyatt Regency and she was extremely happy with her stay. She sent me photos of her room and I was amazed how lovely it was and the free breakfast was amazing.

Another option that is in the middle of things is the Hyatt at Town Lake. They have a decent pool and amenities. Probably a little less expensive than the Four Seasons which is a lovely hotel.

If you have 7 days you may want to consider a split and stay a couple of nights out at Hyatt Lost Pines (their spa is excellent) followed by a few days at the Hyatt in town.

That sounds like a good suggestion. I will look into that. How does Hyatt Lost Pines compare to Barton Creek resort?

The Lost Pines is lovely but is very much geared towards young families-almost feels like a Disney resort (albeit one of deluxe ones). The Omni Barton Creek, while still very family friendly, is a better option if traveling without kids.

Try Lakeway Resort and Spa, if you have kids. They do have the indoor Kid Zone and movies at the pool. They will provide a shuttle to area restaurants. The breakfast buffet is really good.

Agree on split stay. If you want to save money on the rental car, book a hotel next to the airport the night before you fly out. La Quinta Inn is an example of this, they have a shuttle to the airport. There are other hotels with a shuttle if you want something more fancy, but the La Quinta would be good for 1 night. Doing this, you could check into the hotel the day before you fly out, return the rental car, take the shuttle to the hotel, stay over night, eat the free breakfast, take the shuttle to the airport, and fly out.
