Can walk to action from Long Performing Arts Center?

Two couples considering a condo close to the Long Center last weekend in Oct- Thu-Mon (we are there for the Triathlon). Is this an easy area to get to the music/entertainment/restaurant/shopping action of 6th St and also S. Congress? Any other areas not to be missed? Would rather walk, but know nothing of safety, distance, etc. Looks like there is a bus that goes in to town on 1st St. Also, any recommendations for things to do while there. We have never been to Austin and just starting to look. Thx so much for your help!

Do you have an exact address for the condo? Much of what is immediately around the Long Center is commercial, but it is centrally located between the main part of downtown and South Congress. You could easily walk to both from the Center itself, and it would be a safe walk, with lots of foot traffic at almost any time of day, especially if you are with a group. Before you get to 6th Street, you would come to the Second Street District and the Warehouse District. Both have nicer bars and restaurants than what you'll find on 6th. If the condo is west of Lamar, it would be a longer walk, but still doable.
