There are several hotels to choose from. Take a look at the list here and you'll see the reviews, then you can see what's available for your travel dates and what fits your budget. If you want to be right in the heart of things, go with the Old Town Hotel, but read the reviews first. Otherwise, go for one of the hotels right by the King Street metro. You can walk to the heart of Old Town or I believe many of the hotels have shuttles to drive you the few blocks, or you can take the Dash bus.
King Street will be expensive, and difficult to get too. Unless you are planning on sightseeing in DC, it's not the best option. I'm assuming you're not stoping to see any sights, Here are a couple others:
- Take the Telegraph Road exit, and head to the Holiday Inn off of Eisenhower Ave. It is within walking distance of the Eisenhower metro, and a 22 theater cinemaplex.
- Take the FRANCONIA / VAN DORN exit off the beltway (last before the mixing bowl), take a left at the end of the ramp, and there is a Comfort Inn on the left. May not be the most upscale, but it's acceptable from what I hear. Very easy to get back on the Highway from there. (I live just down the street, and there's a metro not too far from there). Just don't arrive in evening rush hour (5-6:30pm), the wait at the light can be long.
- Wait until you get to the "Springfield Mixing Bowl", the junction where I-95 and I-395 meet. There are several hotels right there, lots of places to eat, and a shopping mall with a TARGET in case you need to pick something up at the last minutes. My folks stayed at the Courtyard Marriott there in Springfield for my wedding, it's new and relatively nice. There might be an Quality In in the same area, I can't remember for sure. There is also a Hilton across the street from the Mall. There is a shuttle to the metro from the mall.
Wait until you get further South to get Gas. It'll be very expensive near to DC. Quantico area and south will be cheaper.
To get to Springfield, you will need to take the FRANCONIA Road exit off of I95-S, which means DO NOT take the fly-over bridge that exits left, stay to the right, passing the I-395N exit on the right. You'll take the next exit on the right.
One more thing - avoid our rush hour during the week. The worst of it is 4:40-6:30pm, but on Fridays it can start earlier. Arrive after 7pm or before 3 to avoid the worst traffic.
Your 2 main slowdowns will be crossign the WIlson Bridge from MD to VA and the Springfield mixing bowl.
In the AM, you will be going against traffic if heading South, so leave anytime. .
When coming back, the Wilson Bridge is bad both in the am and pm, so try to avoid the rush.
