Early event at Gaylord-is Old Town good option for lodging?

We have an early morning event on a Sunday at the Gaylord National Harbor. All of the hotels in that area are either sold out, more than we can afford, or have bad reviews of the hotel/area (Oxon Hill, MD hotels). Is Old Town Alexandria a viable option for lodging? We'll arrive in the late afternoon on Saturday so we'll need a relaxing and affordable dinner that evening followed by an early bedtime (so a night out on the town isn't in the plan this trip).

Is it possible to keep our car in the garage after check out and take a shuttle or train to National Harbor? We will be dancing in a competition so we have to check in early at the Gaylord. It looks like parking in National Harbor runs around $35 per day if we stay the whole day (we'll probably be finished around 3:00 pm). Do most hotels charge for parking in Old Town? We're looking for a hotel around $115 per night (no more than $150). Or, would it be better to just drive in and pay again for parking? Any suggestions would be appreciated! We're looking at the Residence Inn on King St.

There is a water taxi from Old Town to National Harbor, but it's $16 each way, so that's not going to save you much. You should probably use the parking garages close to the Gaylord, they have a rate of $13 for the whole day: http://nationalharbor.com/directory-parking/ As for staying in Old Town, I don't know if the hotels charge for parking, but Alexandria is a very nice, historic town and a very short drive to National Harbor.

Thank you! I feel confident staying in Old Town now! Now, I'll just have to decide where to stay! Hilton, Hampton, RI, Sheraton...

Look for a hotel close to king street, the Sheraton is not close to the action, nor is the crown plaza or holiday inn. Good central choices are embassy suites, Hampton, Monaco, Hilton There is parking for a fee for all of these. Driving to the national harbor will be most cost effective. Just five or ten minutes . Check the hotel if there is a shuttle to the Gaylord .

The old town area is safe, fun and has lots to do. If looking to visit Washington, D.C. The metro at king street is convenient.

There is a trolley that runs from the metro to the river and is free.
