Anacortes, Washington

My husband and I are traveling to Anacortes in late June/early July for about one week. We will be scuba diving with a group from our scuba club. Aside from diving what tours are worth taking and what restaurants are good. We will be staying at an RV resort.

Martha Washington Park, near Anacortes.

Re: restaurants, you can select "Restaurants", this page, left column, for reviews, plus Yelp, Yahoo, and more.

There are several on the main street, Commercial, that are pretty good. Given a week, you can try them all. (Also, check restaurant reviews for WI, basically in the areas of Coupeville and Langley.)

Also, 3 or 4 very good galleries on the main street.

Where are you diving? You might also visit San Juan Island (Friday Harbor is the ferry terminal). And some diving occurs in a diving park at the Edmonds ferry terminal.

The San Juan Islands are an obvious choice, since the ferry leaves from Anacortes. There's lots of info here and online about the islands and you'll find there's much to do--whale watching, whale museum, kayaking, hiking, biking, historic sites, good food, etc.

if you don't mind driving a couple hours for beautiful mountain scenery, you could drive to North Cascades National Park. Even if you just went as far as the Ross Lake Overlook, there is nice scenery and interesting stops.

You can go out with a group in a 2-man kayak. You don't need experience, they tell you what to do. They go out for about 4 hours I think. Another great thing in Anacortes is the community forestlands. There are 2700 acres with trails for hiking and mountain bikes. You should see Washington Park, which is beautiful. It has a 2.3 mile loop road you can walk or drive. On one side is the water and islands, on the other side is forest. Restaurants? Cameron's is great but pricey. Adrift is wonderful. Anthony's is pretty good. If you like lamb go to Greek Islands.

Hi Jean C, welcome to the Forum.

Methinks the OP has deserted us after (not) saying "thank you"!

BTW, it's good once again to have someone on the forum from Anacortes.

Thank you. As you can see, I don't check the forum very often. But we love Anacortes, there is so much to do here.
