Oct. 13 Anacortes to Sidney

Assuming ferry leaves 8 to 8:30ish, (no schedule posted yet). How much lead time needed for getting in line with car, tickets, customs and anything else to consider. Car load of seniors staying overnight in Anacortes.

Thanks,

tampatom1

You might want to email Washington ferries as I think I remember that they don't run to Sidney year round.

This Washington State Ferries webpage will provide general information on travel to Canada and give you contact information to email them directly to ask about fall sailings wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/infodesk/faq/victoria/.

Recommendation is that you arrive at least 60 minutes before sailing time at Anacortes. It will take a little bit of time to drive from downtown Anacortes out to the ferry dock. Allow 15-20 minutes depending on the location of your hotel and morning traffic conditions.

This is the website for making reservations: https:/…default.aspx.

@ comcox, that last URL does not seem to work, FYI.

@ tampatom1, I, too, believe there is no ferry service to Sidney when you will be in Anacortes.

Which, if true, leaves you with these options:

How do I get to and from Victoria on Vancouver Island? With passports...

You can fly or, if by water:

From Seattle, the Victoria Clipper (passenger only) http://www.clippervacations.com/

From Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula, the Coho ferry (vehicle and walk-on) http://cohoferry.com/main/

From Vancouver/Tsawwassen, BC Ferries (vehicle and walk-on) http://www.bcferries.com/schedules/

I believe (hope someone chimes in) it will be in Sidney. But, it might be irrelevant if there is no ferry service then.

I recall being checked at Sidney and Anacortes upon return.

The WA state ferry to Sidney on Vancouver island BC requires everyone to be there a minimum of an hour in advance for customs and immigration purposes. Although the Fall 2014 schedule is not out yet most years the schedule will be similar to the year before so here is the schedule for that run at www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/pdf/2013Fall.pdf from this past Fall. And yes there has been a ferry running to Sidney through early January of each year for the past several years. Vehicle reservations are recommended on the BC run and may be made online or by phone and fare info is at http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/fares/. Call from out of state to WSDOT Seattle: 206-464-6400 or toll free in state: 888-808-7977 or online at https:/…default.aspx Do make advance reservations for that as it is possible it would fill in the summer. The WSDOT bulletin page at wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedule/bulletin.aspx carries special notices of cancellations and changes to the posted sailings. Fare rates are at …wa.gov/ferries/pdf/fareseffectivemay2014.pdf Further important information from the WSDOT website posted for that run states "Ana/Sidney - Identification is Required U.S. and Canadian citizens 16 years of age and older traveling to or from Sidney BC must have one of the following designated documents: passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license (EDL), or "trusted traveler" document such as a Nexus Card. Travelers must have required travel documents ready and in hand upon arrival at the tollbooth." as now they won't sell you a ticket to Sidney Canada without you showing them a passport etc for each passenger
