Kawachi Fuji Garden - does this place exist?

I've found some stunning pictures of wisteria in a botanical garden, rumored to be in Kitakyushu. But searches of the garden's name, "Kawachi Fuji Garden" have turned up nothing on tourist information sites, only more hits of blogs all copying each other and referring to the same pictures of wisteria.

Does this place look familiar to anyone? Has it changed names? I found the Shiranoe Botanical Garden website, and nothing is popping out at me that it could be the same garden. I've also tried just searching for the garden name, without regard to location, and had no luck there either.

Or does anyone have any suggestions of alternate keywords I should be using in my search? I would love to visit here if I make it back to Japan, but I don't want to turn up in the wrong city looking for a garden that isn't there.

See this blog post for the stunning pics. http://stomaster.livejournal.com/1102877.html

Thanks for any help!

Hi! I thought I would reply since I was frantically looking for information regarding the Kawachi Fuji Garden a few days ago, and hope to be of some help.

First - Yes! This place exists and it's very beautiful!

I was just there yesterday, and it was simply breathtaking!

Also, it wasn't as crowded as I was expecting, even though it was Golden Week!

Second- There seems to be only 2 options for getting there. First, you need to get to Yahata Station in Kitakyushu. After that, there is a free shuttle (once an hour, except at 2pm) that operates between the station and Ajisei no yu Onsen: 河内温泉「あじさいの湯 . This shuttle is only supposed to be used for visitors to the onsen...but, this really is the most convenient option. And the one that I opted for, since I was traveling solo (so, hopefully not taking up too much room in their van!). Anyway, the garden is, literally, a 2-minute walk up the road from the onsen. So, really close!

The second option is a taxi from Yahata station to the gardens, which might take about 20 minutes. But the taxis are quite expensive in Japan!

Anyway, it helps to do lots of research and to be able to read a little kanji. But, I completely recommend this place! It was everything I was expecting!

Isn't it this one? tripadvisor.it/Attraction_Review-g303160-d37…

I will be in Japan between April 24th and May 10th and I probably will be based in Kyoto between 1st and 6th of May. Does someone want to come with me to Kitakyushu to try to find this place???

From Kyoto, I think you might just go to Nara's Kasuga Taisha shrine's Manyo Garden for wisteria as Shot-san recommended. Why bother to go all the way to Kyushu?

Byodoin in Uji near Kyoto is apparently known for wisterias (never knew that before):

However, upon checking its official HP apparently because of pruning shears, wisterias won't be having much flowers on this year (2014).
