What is the ferry ride like to Ilha Grande?

I get very seasick :( I will have medicine with me but I want to be prepared. Is the ferry large or is it a small boat? What are the waves like? How long does it take to reach Ilha Grande?

Thank you so much for any information you can share.

Hi!

It all depends what boat you are on..

The larger ferry would be the most stable. Myself I took a sailboat of sorts, I love the water so enjoyed it, but others may not. On my return to the mainland I used a zodiac for my transfer, very fast compared to the other vessels.

Thanks Oakley for your reply. Guess I need to find out about the boat/ferry.

Ilha Grande (Big Island) is 95 miles southwest of Rio de Janeiro. The island is a largely undeveloped protected area and noted for its beautiful beaches and hillsides covered in lush tropical forests. There are no cars and no banks on Ilha Grande, so bring cash with you since not all hotels, shops, and restaurants accept credit cards. The largest village on the island is Vila do Abraão, where most of the visitor facilities are located, and can be reached from the mainland by local ferries and catamarans.

Following up on my own post to say that the ride was not bad at all. We took a speed (air) boat and the ride was only 15 minutes. Waves weren't bad and I didn't get sick at all. There is another large wooden boat that takes 45 minutes and I could see that being on that boat could make you sick because it moved slowly....
