Please help - Carnival 2012

Hi All,

I'm looking to book a ticket to Brazil for the 2012 Carnival and hope that someone can advise me on the best options for my trip. I'm from London UK and It'll be my very first time there. I'm looking to stay there from the 16th to the 22nd Feb 2012. I've been studying a few Brazilian Portuguese phrases so I'm not completely lost when I get there. I'll have roughly £1000 excl. ticket i think and I'll be travelling alone.

I really hope someone can help me with the following:

1. Specialist Travel Agent (Should I get a Plane ticket or package?)

2. Carnival ticket

3. Good priced(cheap) best location hotel (pref. near beach)

4. Places to visit (I will plan to go to Ipenema or Copacabana beaches)

Thanks so much for your advise!

Prince

Hi ya,

well my boyfriend and i are heading to the carnival to start our 6months trip. we found everything v exspencive to book unless your in a party so we have gone with tucan travel in the end. you get a good 3* hotel (you can upgrade to 4* if you like) breackfast included, sunday night ticket to samba parade and an airport collection. normal price is £530 but If you book with flight centre you get 3% off booking.

Not sure if thats any help, hope so.

Good luck,

Hey I would say toucan travel is ridicoulsly expensive.I will be travelling alone from the 10th-20th feb could meet up before i'm in west london.30 year old..nearly next march lady.

I booked my flights with asda, 560, and accomodation on hostel bookers.com, its shared but saves money for other things. You can get hotels for £400 but some are away from rio. Try expedia, hotels.com, and booking .com.I'm in vidigal then near the sheraton in Leblon. For carnival I may get cheaper tickets for the access a group, or your looking to pay min £200 to watch a parade.Know it will be amazing but the other parade is similar. You can get flights to the falls and go self guided, there is also tijuca forest near christ the redeemer and you can swim in that n oi t in igazu..hope that helps.I've been told too book tours whilst your there much cheaper. :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks Aimee thank you.. Looks like if Im looking for something cheap - hostels are the way to go I'm still looking around and hope to make the final decision in the next cple of days...

Hi Chocablock thanks for the advise.. I see £560 aswell so will look to book.. just scared of booking and not finding anywhere half decent. I've just found somewhere called airbnb and looks like private rentals - some prices actually look really good. I've mailed a couple of people and now waiting a reply.. We're about the same age, meet up would be good im trying to do loads also lol..

Re: the Carnival tickets, we just bought 2 tickets at http://www.rio-carnival.net/. No problem at all, and the agents there are quick to respond to our emails. We tried emailing another site before, and they didn't return emails nor pick up their phone during their business hour! (Not good at all!)

If you are trying to decide whether to go on Sun or Mon, we did a quick analysis here: http://bit.ly/zuxprb (Well, since we are spending ~$500pp for the ticket, we want to make sure we are going to enjoy it!)
