Take the yellow taxis. The senior cost for the aerial cable car is R$ 31 if you present a photo ID. The cost in U$ depends on the day's exchange rate. If you don't have local currency you can pay by credit or debit card.

Thank you from me, too. What would it cost from a cruise ship to sugar loaf and back? How do we negotiate with the Drivers? English? Paper and pencil? Both???

Thanky you, MonteCD. And How about Taxi costs from the Port to the Sugar Loaf. Are the Taxi-Fare-Calculators good enough?

The cost of a taxi is per cab, not per person. Yes, make sure the meter is turned on.

I think that the fare might be about R$ 30 each way.

Do not negotiate the fare with the driver, just write your destination on a piece of paper and have the "taximetro" turned on. Sometimes there is an addition of about 10% to the price shown on the meter. This happens when the meter does not reflect a recent change in the fare. In this case the driver will show you a conversion table.

Sugar Loaf = Bondinho do Pão de Açúcar

Ship port = Píer Mauá

Important: Píer Mauá is the name of the ship port in Rio and not a translation. For other ports in Brazil use the generic term "cais do porto".
