This is an interesting page, thanks for sharing. One observation: despite the fact that it is recommended to walk with a copy of a passport, in some circumstances, an original ID may be required. For insterstate trips (either by bus or plane), an original ID will (or at lease should) be required -- in this case it's important to take the actual passport. Some travelers leave their passport behind when they are planning on returning to their original place (e.g. a traveler to is renting an apartment in Rio and visiting Paraty leaves his/her passport in Rio). So it's good to be with a passport when traveling from Rio to another city. I had an American acquaintance who couldn't come back to Rio from Foz do Iguaçu by bus and had to wait for her passport, which had to be mailed by a friend in Rio.
In clubs, an ID will be required, but most of times a domestic ID with a picture and date of birhday (like a driver's license) will be accepted. It's definitely a good idea to carry an ID in the evening, leaving the passport at home.
