Windsor Excelsior Hotel Avenida Atlantica 1800 | Copacabana

Hello!

I am looking to book this hotel for February 2015 Carnival. It will just be 3 ladies in our twenties. We were in Rio back in 2012 but stayed in Ipanema. Looking for some feedback if you can help.

Is this hotel in a good location to festivities, bars, restaurants?

Do you know what posto beach is across the street?

How far walking distance to Ipanema? Posto 7/8/9/10?

Thank you so much for you help and time

It's a good hotel that gets good reviews and is near the Copacabana Palace. (Posto 3.) It would take about 25 minutes to walk to Ipanema, but it's a pleasant walk.

Don’t walk along the shore, however, because muggers sometimes congregate there. Use the sidewalk. Once you get to the end of Copacabana you have to walk through the small Arpoador neighborhood before getting to Ipanema.

There’s also a tunnel connecting Copacabana and Ipanema—equally unsafe.

There is a handy bus 154 that connects Copacabana and Ipanema. It passes along Barata Ribeiro St. For Leblon, there is the 464 bus. It's a bit far to walk.

Real Bus 2018 from GIG airport passes along the beachfront road (Avenida Atlântica). It costs R$ 12,00 to the best of my knowledge.

You can use the subway to reach ipanema. Cheaper and fast.

Praça Cardeal Arcoverde (Copacabana station) is near the hotel.

How much they are charging you in this hotel/night to Carnaval?

I would either walk to Ipanema (if you enjoy walking) or take the subway at Cardeal Arcoverde. Take any train General Osório-bound train. General Osório is the only station in Ipanema (there are other stations under construction for 2016). Subway is also very good for reaching Centro, where you can check the Municipal Theater (go on a week day; it's deserted on weekends and holidays).

In the evening, regardless of where you're staying, prefer to take cabs.

Loving the feedback. Another question if you can help:

Windsor Plaza-Avenida Princesa Isabel, 263- is this close to Windsor Excelsior. Windsor Plaza is less per night than the Windsor Excelsior.

We do like to walk so would walk to Ipanema or take subway and taxi in evening if feel we need to.

Thanks so much. Would like to book asap for I feel hotels will only increase due to Carnival.

It's a couple of blocks from the beach and from the Excelsior. Unless there is a big difference in price, I would recommend you stay in the Excelsior.

Note that prices for hotels, hostels, and apartments in Rio during Carnaval often double (and sometimes triple)—and you may have to book for a certain number of nights.

Have a look at the Hotel Ibis Rio de Janeiro Copacabana, which is new and gets very good reviews. It’s one of the best hotel bargains in the city and it's not far from the beach.

Avenida Princesa Isabel is not exactly the best place in Copa; there are some adult entertainment establishments there and I personally dislike the vibe of this area. I would prefer to stay at the Excelsior or even another Windsor hotel, such as the Windsor Copa tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g303506-d325350…

Another hotel in the area is the Ibis. It's very close to the subway and a few blocks from the beach. tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g303506-d350850… Yes, it's not far from Princesa Isabel, but at least you know what you're paying for (Ibis is very standarized). Cheers
