Travel to Chiloe Island-ferry

Where do we catch the ferry--we are travelling by car in early March.

How often does it run?

Do we need reservations?

What does it cost?

Thank you.

You need to travel southeast from Puerto Montt towards Pargua, about 40 minutes,, where you take the ferry across the Canal de Chacao. They don't take reservations as the ferries are frequent. Ferries take buses and cars over between 6:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.

In summer they often have a separate line for cars or trucks/buses.

The ferry ride takes about 20 minutes. You just drive on/drive off. Most people just sit in their cars for the crossing as the ferry doesn't have any services, aside from toilets.

It is the same for the other ferries between the Chiloe group of islands. Turn up, drive on/drive off

And how did you like Chiloe?

What were the best bits?

We liked Chiloe. We rented a lovely apartment/suite about 20 minutes from Castro. Our hostess was fabulous.

And we had the best beets and potatoes from a local gardener, eggs and bread from a local farmer and creamy honey from a bee keeper who exports his honey to Germany and France.

We enjoyed one hike in the national park but wished there had been lots more at the "medium" level.

And as always in Chile-the people were wonderful.
