Yangshuo

Hi,

We will be in Yangshuo and the area for 4 days. We want to visit the Longji rice terraces, do some rafting, see some caves, and visit some beautiful villages. We want to swim and spend time in the water. Is it safe to swim in the Li River? CAn anyone recommmend a good itinerary for 4 days? We have two kids, aged 11 and 13. Also, where are the best locations for decent accomodation? Not backpacker stuff, family friendly and clean, maybe more expensive if we need it.

What is the time distance between Longji and Yangshuo? How do we get between teh two places? Lots of questions, any answers appreciated!

Not sure about your flight schedule, the itineray is for your reference.

D1 Airport Transfer to Longji (2.5hrs drive)

D2 Longji rice terrace tour, Longi-Yangshuo ( 3.5 hour drive)

D3 Yangshuo activities ( bike around countryside, rock climb,

D4 Yangshuo to Guilin(1.5 hrs drive), Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill, Airport Transfer

There are are limited options for theLongji mountainous location. Popular options are Longji One Hotel 3*, LiAn Hotel (boutique hotel)

As for Yangshuo, hotels near the west streets willl enable you far enough to avoid the street noise and yet close enough to have some central fun. Mogalia 3*, Green Lotus Hotel 5* are also nice choices.

Longji is located in the north of Guilin city, Yangshuo south of Guilin. those two places are a little bit far. I am afraid you need to stay a night in Longji.

The itinerary maybe like this

Day 1 : arrive Guilin, transfered to Yangshuo county by bus(1.5hours).have some good rest in hotel.

Day 2 : Go bamboo rafting in the Li river or in Yulong river.both are beatiful.

rent a bike and cycling around in the county ,you can visit some villages.

Day 3 : swimming in the Li river is not recommanded, if you insist, it is OK, anywhere in the Li river is available for swimming, the Locals may warn you. the water is about 3 meters deep. be careful.

you can go around Yangshuo. the moon hill the XingPing acient town, or the silver cave are good places, you may consider those.

Day 4 : Going to Guilin city to see the reed flute cave, then transferred to the Longji (2.5hours), spend a night in Longji.

Day 5:take a flight and leave for you next destination.

it is five days and four night. if you want to cut is a little bit. then the fist day upon arrival, you can go to see something, and you can save a day.

as for the accomodation, the Green Lotus Hotel is the best in Yangshuo,Chinatown hotel is also OK, the new west street hotel may up to your expectation.

have a nice trip !

For a family you might prefer the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat, a little way out of town hence very quiet & a good place to hire bicycles.

Also the hotel John mentioned but misspelled is the Magnolia - also frequently recommended but I haven't stayed there Very convenient location just off West St.

If you only can save 4 days with your teenagers here, it should cover Longji terraced paddy fields, white rafting alone 12 Tan, stop by farmer Painters' village in Wutong on the way back , Li river cruise in the big boat, bamboo rafting in JiuXian, biking nearby Yangshuo suchlike Ai Shan or Yong Cun, Climb the Moon Hill. Save one day for the kids to study the special fruit---Luo han fruit (also named immortal fruit), which only thrives in Guilin region, visiting the Luohan farm and enjoy the fresh picking passion fruits in the farm too. This climate is shaping the jagged landscapes and its crops.

Chapter Two: Come back another time for its people, wars and folk customs happen in these mountains. It takes another 3 days.
