With the current globalwarming it would be impossible to say what the weather would be like in Oct anywhere. We were there a couple of years back in Apr and the weather was lovely , were there in Apr just gone and we had horrible weather.

Cavtat as a destination is absolutely fabulous.

Cavtat which is about 1 hour ferry ride south of Dubrovnik, was originally the site of the town of Epidaurum, founded in the 4th century BC.

If Dubrovnik is a chocolate box, then Cavtat is a paintbox. Cobbled streets with traditional red-roofed brownstone houses climb back from the blue of the waterfront. There are narrow stairways between sides of each street and at this time of year, the white, mauve and pink blossoms are everywhere. In the fruit and vegetable market, by the bus station, crates of green and red peppers, purple aubergines and green figs are piled high beside tables laden with bananas, papayas, melons and the knobbly lemons, that you will also find hanging from the surrounding trees.

The celebrated Croatian painter Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922) remains Cavtat's most famous son. His former home is slowly being transformed into a gallery. It displays portraits by the artist of his family and provides space for visiting exhibitions. In addition, the quirky little building has recently been revealed as something of a work of art in itself. Workmen accidentally uncovered wall after wall of his pastel-colour-washed paintings depicting birds, animals and rural scenes all hidden for years by plasterwork and now being lovingly restored.

The peninsula is the perfect place to come for a swim and you can clamber down through the woodland to a waterfront fringed by rocky outcrops. Cavtat has its share of sandy beaches - but these are mostly in an area known as Zal, a kilometre east of the town centre, which houses a string of modern hotels. More attractive are the occasional bathing platforms and shack-like cafés that are dotted round the water's edge of the peninsula itself. Right by the shoreline, we settled in a nice restaurant for lunch of some local cheese (served as a starter delicacy from Pag island) and fresh fish and salad with a carafe of local wine. We found it difficult to tear ourselves away.

As evening falls over Cavtat, the lights go out on the peninsula. Seemingly the whole of the town heads down to the harbour - either for a stroll along the promenade or for a gossip and a travarica (powerful local herb-brandy) in one of Cavtat's many bars and restaurants. It was a great day.

Mudra/Sydney.......You write beautifully. I propose the town fathers get you to do their publicity.

We are going to be in Cavtat Oct.5-10,2013 and we're really looking forward to it......in addition to getting to Dubrovnik and Kotor.

We've just returned (29th September) from a week in Cavtat. 22-24 degrees each day, just a lovely temperature to see this beautiful place, and not too hot when visiting Dubrovnik either. We were planning to stay in Cavtat for 5 nights, and Dubrovnik for 3, but we loved Cavtat so much we cancelled our Dubrovnik accommodation and simply visited for sightseeing via the numerous boats that do about 10 return trips, each, per day. Hope you get the same weather that we did.
