Driving around for a first time nervous driver!! Worth it?

My husband and I cannot wait to visit Croatia for the first time at the beginning of July, we have booked 5 nights in a small hotel with pool.

We normally go to a small village in Turkey every summer as the people are fantastic, the service is generally exceptional and prices are so reasonable. Cavtat seems to tick all these boxes after our research.

In Turkey we use the local dolmus or buses and taxis are very cheap, so are day trips by boat or car so we have not needed to book car hire. I'm wondering whether it's worth hiring one in Cavtat for just a couple of days or can we get around easily enough without this option? We are fairly lazy, like walking around and not over planning each day. A trip to the rat museum and Dubrovnik is on our list but we are just as happy sitting in a cafe and people watching.

Also we hope to visit for two weeks next year with our 18 and 16 year olds for the last "family" summer holiday so this is in effect a scouting trip.

Any responses are welcome!! CG :-)

If you are just wanting to go to Dubrovnik from Cavtat I see no reason to get a car...just relax and enjoy the views and be lazy...being lazy in Croatia is a very good thing!!!!

That's excellent news! Are there other day trips requiring little effort and excursion companies with good reputations? CG :-)

You can get the local ferry to Lopud island from Dubrovnik (Gruz), lovely little village and Sunj beach over the hill. I think that and Dubrovnik plus Cavtat would be enough for me for 5 days!

Looks like a very interesting little island so if we have any time or energy after lazing around, we may pop over.

On the other hand, a pastry, beer or glass of wine might get in the way!!

Have multiple beverages as you laze around and sit in awe of the beauty of Croatia!

Barrym, Croatia is the only place in the world where I don't feel like a lush for having a pivo at 11am. :)

Quite civilized considering the locals force Slivovitz down you at 10am on fish picnics! :D

I have learned many things of value in Croatia.

The most important, is that if you embark on a drinking local spirits contest with the locals, you will lose. :D

I have learned that Croatin drivers can pass cars on the highway with very little room or time to pass.
