we are planning the same thing for the end of the month, could you tell me how it was, if it was easy and if the streets are drivable.Or anything i should know concerning the terms of the drive.
The drive from Zadar to Plitvice Lakes National Park was so easy, and the roads were in great condition. Literally, it's two roads you need to follow. The first is the toll road (bring cash) out of Zadar, which is well marked out of the city. Next, you'll exit the toll road and take a road that leads you right to Plitvice Lakes. The road is only 3 years old, and cuts directly through the mountains. You'll go through a tunnel which is about 3 miles long (I can't remember the exact length). It's a stunning architectural feat. You'll see brown signs for Plitvice Lakes along the way - just keep following them. You'll pass two entrances for the park - we went to the second entrance since we were there off season, there was no-one parked at the first entrance. The second entrance has a bridge over the road that takes you from the parking lot to the restaurant and ticket booth/entrance.
We took our Sat-Nav/GPS from Great Britain, which covers Eastern Europe. Even without the Sat Nav, the drive would have been easy. The drive was actually beautiful - it climbs up through the mountains with lovely vista views.
There's a thread on this topic here also:
The park was absolutely stunning - it's a must-see.
It should take you about two hours from Zadar.
Yeah, it took us about 2 hours.
Just curious if i took a bus to Plitvice and stayed over night. Would there be a chance to get on one of the buses that come by every day.
Just curious as to how reliable they are. the buses i mean,.
