I and others have noticed that the lodging categories are very confusing. There are 'Hotels', 'B&B and Inns' and 'Specialty Lodging.' Three places that should definitely be listed under 'Hotels' are the Hotel Acoma, a block from the Indian Market; the Hotel Otavalo, in the center of town and Otavalo's first real Hotel; and the Dona Esther, a small hostal, but located in the middle of town and fits the description of a hotel.
Some places that are listed under 'Otavalo Hotels' should not be there. For example, the Hosteria Hacienda San Francisco (not a real hacienda though) is one and a half hours north of Otavalo in another province, also the Hosteria Pueblo Viejo, which is located right outside of Atuntaqui, on the way to Ibarra on the Panamerican Highway. As well, Casa Mojanda, which is 15 min. drive outside of Otavalo, and Hacienda Pinsaqui, which is 15 min. drive outside of Otavalo. 'Hotels' should denote a place that is in town and has the services of a hotel. The Hotel Otavalo and the Hotel Acoma are classic Otavalo Hotels and it is confusing to tourists not to see these businesses listed under 'Otavalo Hotels.' By the way, the Hotel Acoma cannot be beat for comfort, decor, service and price.Edited: 26 January 2012, 16:17
