Cochin to Munnar via Athirapally waterfalls or not?

Hi,

I have a plan to visit Cochin to Munnar on 6th to 8th Oct. We will take a car from Cochin on 6th and drive to Munnar. We will explore Munnar on 6th afternoon and 7th full day. We will check out from Munnar on 8th Morning for Alleppey.

Need your suggestion:-

1) What are the places we should see on the way from Cochin to Munnar?

2) What are the places must be covered in Munnar on 6th afternoon and 7th Oct whole day?

3) Does it make sense if we want to include Athirapally waterfalls in the plan?

4) How much extra kilometers will it be over and above standard route from Cochin to Munnar and hence how much extra cost in it is in Tavera A/C rental car?

5) Do you think it does not make sense as practically we will get only one day to explore Munnar?

Appreciate and early response from the experts.

Thanks.

Hi,

we will get down at 8:10 am and then freshen up before proceed to Munnar.

Day 1 - arrive at morning 8:10 am in Ernakulum Railway stn

Day 1 - freshen up and start at 10 am for Munnar either via Athirapally (extra 80 km) or via conventional route (130 Km) and on the way sightseeing of few water falls etc. Assume it takes 5 hours drive via Athriapally and hence will reach Munnar around 4-5 PM in evening.

Day 1 - Check in at a Resort in Munnar, afternoon sight seeing in Munnar (if time permits) or relax in resort.

Day 2 - Munnar - whole day

Day 3 - Check out from Munnar and drive down to Alleppey

Day 4 - Alleppey to Cochin Airport

Hi

If you visit a athirapally on day 1,you won't get any time in munnar on day 1.you will just get a full day on day2 for munnar sightseeing. Munnar requires 3-4 days for relaxed sightseeing and I recommend to spend at least 2 days. So better to proceed to Munnar on day 1 itself. Enroute you may enjoy Vallara & cheeyapara falls.

You can check previous munnar forum topics for itineraries

in my opinion Aathirappally cannot be compared with the falls enroute to Munnar , you may check for pictures of the falls on the net

if you would like to see a full flowing water falls after the monsoon showers and if you havent got a chance to see such falls then i would suggest to make it , else if your priority is in covering all that Munnar offers then skip the falls

Hello Mr.Arupchat,

some more tips regarding your travel. From Ernakulam-Athirapally road is good and you can believe travelling time says by "google maps" if there is no traffic on the way.But travelling from cochin-munnar road take time.since there is lot of bend ,narrow roads on the way.

Athirapally waterfall is one of the best waterfall in kerala. if you are really want to see it go head.If you are not want to travel much then avoid it.
