safety of hotel rooms?

The wiki travelguide says "There are many reports of stolen money especially on the resorts on Sairee beach. Normally the thieves (sometimes even hotel staff) sneak into the room while you are out diving and take your cash from your wallet or from your bags. "

I am a little worried about this because I plan to take a day trip tomorrow to go snorkeling. Any advice on what I can do about this?

Hi,

Inquire as to whether there is a safe where you can leave your valuables.

Leave your stuff in a safe as suggested by AA, this is what we have always done and had no problems.

Most places have some form of safety deposit.

If where you're staying doesn't have a safe to leave valuables you could lock them in your suitcase, not the same as a safe but I doubt they'd steal the suitcase, especially as they don't know if anything's in it.

thanks for the replies. There are safes available in the main hall of my hotel, so I'll keep my stuff there
