beach to stay with easy access for swimming and snorkeling

Planning for 6 days in Koh Tao after a week in Koh Samui, can anyone give us advice on the best place to stay in ordetto have easy access to great beach for snorkelling and swimming, in our 40's so no need for busy bars etc but easy access to nice food and a feww shops for evening strolling would be great.

Hi

In order to suggest suitable accomodation could you say when you are going and what your budget would be.

All most all the beaches around are ok to swim in and have shore snorkeling. However, the best snorkeling is offshore from a boat.

Hi, thanks for replying, we will be there 18th Feb after a week in Koh Samui, deliberating over Koh Tao and Koh Pangyang. Want to spend our final week in a nice peaceful area with easy access to great beach for swimming and snorkelling, walking distance to places to eat and shops to mooch around. In our 40's so party bar scene a thing of the past lol.

Which island do you think would be best ? staying at Lawana resort in Koh Samui got our bungalow for £35 per night so hoping for something about that price but appreciate that Koh Tao may be more pricey so could stretch to £50, have a bit of a fantasy of having a place right on the beach, so can walk into the sea in the morning after breakfast.

Any advice would be appreciated. Loads of info on here but brain is now beginning to get frazzled !!

sorry lushlynds meant to add, someone on the Koh Samui forum strongly suggested that we book in advance, whereas i was planning on doing day trips to both during our stay in Koh Samui and then making the decision but they felt that might be a bit risky...what do you think ?

Hi Missi

Ok, here goes!! I've never stayed on Samui or Phangan so won't pretend to know enough about them to give any specifics.

Regarding booking in advance. It's not essential and there's often plenty to choose from as long as it's not peak season. February is high but not peak. If, however, there's somewhere you set your heart on then to avoid possible disappointment book in advance.

Location wise you have a few options depending on how many bars/restaurants and shops you want. We always stay at the north end of Sairee beach. As it is the main resort it has everything you're asking for but is busier and does have a "party" scene. However, we aint party folk, so trust me when I say you can avoid it easily and be pretty much totally unaware of it. If that sounds of interest then take a look at Sairee Hut Resort. Right on the beach, within budget and easy walk to shops etc.

If that's too busy then head to Chalok Baan Kao, it's a lot quieter but still has eateries and a few shops. It has a nice beach but snorkeling aint that great. Thian Og is near by and has some great swimming/snorkeling. Koh Tao Resort is a one to look at here.

For more isolation still then head to Tanote bay, it's a gorgeous spot with great swimming/snorkeling. It doesn't, however, have much more than a few resorts. Mantalay Resort is where I'd suggest here.

On Koh Tao, try the simple life, they are so helpful with everything pre visit, such as help with ferry times, pick up from the ferry, they even booked our ferry tickets for us and told us we could pay when we got there.

Reasonable, nice resort in Sairee, if that is where you want to be.

Yes Simple Life Resort is very good, our first choice when we stay, but it's not on the beach and is possibly a little too close to the party scene.

Thanks guys for your replys, we have booked the sensi paradise resort, wanted to go with haad tine but they were really poor at getting back to us, sensi seems to have good reviews and the island is small enough to be able to go to a new beach every day without much problem.

Can't wait.....

Sensi is a great place and very well located. Only reason I didn't mention it was I though it was over budget.

Hope you have a great time.
