Ferry question

Does the ferry stop in Ko Tao before heading to Ko Panang or vice versa? Travelling soon with my daughters and they plan to do Panang before joining me in Tao. Just trying to work out logistics. We plan to fly down from Bangkok on a combined air/ferry ticket with either Air Asia or Nok. Guess they will need 2 separate tickets, one into Panang and return from Tao? Then they will need separate ferry tickets Panang to Tao to meet up with me.

Depends where you catch it from. If you catch it from Chumphon (Nok Air) then it will stop in Koh Tao first, if from Surat Thani (Air Asia), then it will stop Koh Phangan (via Samui) first. If your girls are going to Phangan first then better then either fly direct to Samui and ferry over to Phangan or Air Asia to Surat Thani with bus/ferry transfer. For you it would be better flying to Chumphon with bus/ferry transfer to Koh Tao. The girls will then grab a ferry from Phangan to Tao.

All booked, getting the overnight bus/ferry combo down from Bangkok on the 23rd, then return Nok Air in the 30th.

We fly down from Buri Ram to Bangkok on the 23rd and don't arrive in till around 5.30, seemed to make the most sense to just jump the overnight bus, should be an adventure...and cheap!

Nok airlines have scuppered our plans, our original flight down to Bangkok on the 23rd now changed so doesn't arrive in till 1840, bit too tight to get the 2100 bus I think? Need plan B....not sure whether to overnight in Bangkok then fly down next morning, followed by ferry or do the Lomprayah bus ferry combo departing 0600 ??

If your flight arrives on time, you may still be able to make it, although admittedly it would be a very quick switch. From Don Muong airport you're looking at a transfer time to Khao San where the bus departure leaves of just over an hour - most other city locations actually take much less, but getting into Khao San is a nightmare!

It may be more relaxing to stay overnight, although you'd then forfeit the whole of the next day to travelling. But as plan B's go, its the next best option if you miss the evening bus.

Just answered in your other posting. Have you thought about getting the overnight train from Hualamphong Station or even from Bang Sue which is closer to Don Mueang Station? You would alight at Chumphon and then get the Lomprayah Ferry over to Koh Tao. This would be only if you can't get a refund from Lomprayah and would save a nights accommodation in Bangkok. There is a train that leaves Hualamphon Station around 22.30.

I think we might have it sorted. Instead of flying from Buri Ram to Don Muang (Nok Air cancelled this flight), we plan to fly from Ubon ratchathani airport instead. We can get a replacement Nok flight getting in at 1555 leaving plenty of time to transfer to the bus at 2100. We're travelling from Surin, Ubon not so handy but Nok laying on airport transfers for us. A bit of a faff but sure it will be worth it!
