koh tao vs krabi!!

HI, can somebody please elaborate on both the places and what activities each offers. im travelling in mid August and cannot decide whether to go to Koh Tao or to Krabi. I will be staying there for 7 nights, travelling alone.

From reading a lot of the posts here, i see that Koh Tao offers a lot of water activities like kayaking, snorkeling, diving, etc. What is Krabi like. Is there stuff to do there as well or will 7 days be too much for Krabi?

would love a detailed description of both the places, the activities offered and the feedback on good food/restaurants/bars.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I think you'll find all the information you need regarding place descriptions, restaurant, accommodation and activities recommendations in the relevant review sections Koh Tao and Krabi on this website. That contains way more information than one post can cover here.

Deciding between the two is easy when you consider that August is Monsoon time in Krabi but not on Koh Tao, so for better weather Koh Tao is the best choice.

If you'd like more info about Koh Tao then I would recommend http://www.kohtao.asia/ which has lots of activities, restaurants and accommodation reviews as well as lots of other useful information to help you plan your trip here.

Hope this helps!

The weather will generally be better on Koh Tao in August as Krabi is in monsoon season then - that alone would dictate to me where to head.

In Dec/Jan, would you recommend Railay or Koh Tao (we also plan to visit Koh Ngai and Koh Kradan)? And would you recommend Koh Tao over Koh Ngai and Koh Kradan?

Thanks!

Railay would have better sea conditions in December/January.

Hi do you recommend Adaman islands over the Gulf islands? I'll also be there in January. I'm looking for a nice island to visit that has good diving but not too touristy.

Hi Brian. The east and west coast islands can be quite different. Have you had a look at the destination guides on here for the locations you are considering? That's probably the best way to narrow it down. FYI most Thai islands will be fairly touristy in Jan, as that is one of our peak seasons.

Last year the gulf monsoon was very delayed, meaning Jan and into Feb was still windy & choppy seas. This year however it looks like it may be pretty much on time. Wind has already swung over to come from the NE and we are starting to get a few soakings already. But to be more certain on conditions, the west coast may be a safer option.

Hope this helps :)
