Marrakech to Fez via Erg Chebbi

We have been planning our 2 week trip to Morocco in January and want to thank everyone on this forum for all the info. posted. We are looking for advice regarding number of days allowed for the following itinerary. Do you think Day 3 is too much and we should divide it into 2 days? We have lots of time (3 days in Marrakech and 5 days in Fez). We could cut a day from our Fez stay.

Day 1: Marrakech - Taroudannt -

Day 2: Taroudannt - Ouarzazate -

Day 3: Ouarzazate - Boumalne - Todra Gorges - Tinghire

Day 4: Tinghire - Merzouga (overnight in desert)

Day 5: Merzouga - Fez

thanks everyone.

How are you going, by bus or rent a car? But I suppose you rent a car when i look at your itinerary, or?

Anyway, it take about 4 hours to go from Ouarzazate to Boumalne and Tinerhir. Then it depend of what you will visit, only Todra Gorge or even Dades? If only Todra Gorge, then it is OK. However Dades would be worth to see too so maybe you can go there afternoon day 3. And day 4 before you go to Merzouga take Todra Gorge.

But to Merzouga it is also about 4 hours and you have to be there earlier afternoon because camel treks (I suppose you will do it) starts 16.00-15.00?

From Merzouga to go in one day to Fes, it is far and you cannot drive fast. So if you stay overnight for example in Midelt, it will be good. Then you should make stop in Azrou and find wild monkey there and look at ceder three.

So as you see, probably you would work with your itinerary a little more. You need more days for this trip from Marrakech via Taroudant etc. to Fes.

Think at that you cannot drive fast, and you cannot drive when it is dark and in December the days are short.

P.S: sorry, I wrote December, but even in January days are still a little short.

Thanks Khamlia. We are going by car and were thinking to take more time to get to Merzouga and enjoy the travel.
