getting to Ometepe

How long would it take to get to Ometepe from the airport. I am trying to figure out if we should attempt it the same day as out flight arrives or say overnight somewhere?

How long is each part of the journey (The drive to the ferry, the ferry ride...)? Does the ferry take cars? Should we get a taxi the whole way, or get a taxi to the ferry and then get a cab the short tide to the hotel on the other side? (There are three of us and luggage so we might as well just get a cab). thanks.

Depends on where you are taking the ferry from.

A taxi from the airport will probably take 3.5 hours to the ferry in san jorge, which is the normal/popular/faster one. Depending how fast he drives. Might make it in 3. The ferry takes about an hour

The last ferry is around 530

If your flight is scheduled to arrive later than 12:30 or 1 you might miss it or be cutting it close by the time you get through customs and wait for your checked baggage, and then buy the ferry ticket, etc.

Also if you are asking if you should ferry the cab over just to take you to a hotel the answer is no. The cab driver will charge you more for the time, the ferry will charge you 20 bucks for the car, each way.

Unless you are planning on hiring the cab for the week as a personal driver all over the island, and have something worked out with him ahead of time, just take the ferry on your own and get transportation or walk on thr other side when you get off.

Ditto the PP. I would break it up into two days. There is a cute little hotel in San Jorge called Hotel Las Hamacas.

Once out of customs (which take up to 45 minutes) the ride to San Jorge in Rivas is about two hours and a half, get a shuttle ride which sometimes you have to wait for another people or better for a private transportation to the ferry and as Likeeveryoneelse said the last ride is about 05:00pm then when you get to the other side of the which take one hour you will find many taxis that will take you to your hotel.

The ferry do takes car but most of the time only with reservation.
