Though the crash was a plane from the company, "Aeroica", be wary of boarding any of the planes. After the accident, authorities found that 68% of the planes at the airfield FAILED inspections (http://elcomercio.pe/impresa/notas/detectan-problemas-tecnicos-68-avionetas-nasca/20100227/420344).

Please do not gamble with your life. Educate yourself about the risks, and beware of unscrupulous companies that value profits more than safety and human lives.

sparklechiq only has 3 postings on this forum, and all 3 of them are the same.

I do not like this type of harassment against Nazca visitors.

The government is trying to further increase safety on the Nazca lines flights, its the 2nd busiest airport in Peru with close to 30,000 flights a year.

Is it harassment or posting of the truth to inform visitors? She isn't making it up, she gives a link to El Comercio.

I guess the good news is that 32% passed.

The airlines that passed the initial safety inspection are

The cleared planes are: Aero Diana (1), Aero Paracas (2), Alas Peruanas (2) and Travel Air (2).

It is a shame that they waited until now to address this, I guess the companies are too powerful and it takes a fatal crash to force action. Reportedly the company was involved with another fatal crash in 2008 and was permitted to change its name.

Debe decir:

What worries me is that these thre are his/her only postings ever on the forum.

It looks like a personal vendetta.

The information provided is the right one.

Safety conditions are essential, specially if you are flying. It is not acceptable to relax safety conditions only to get business from unwary tourists.

Today March 31st, 2010:

http://www.correoperu.com.pe/correo/nota.php?txtEdi_id=27&txtSecci_parent=0&txtSecci_id=71&txtNota_id=318802

A plane of Aeropilcazu, one of the companies that did not `passend the inspection have a almost miss yesterday. Most of the planes are more than 30 years old.

As the journalist writes "even after the deaths none have solved the problems".

And that have nothing to do with the fantastic attraction that are nazca lines

I appreciate hearing everyone's views and receiving the link to the article. Seven of us flew over the lines in mid-February and thought it was amazing. The planes are old, but isn't that partly because manufacturing of the model and type of plane used was discontinued by U.S. airplane manufacturers over 25 years ago? And old doesn't necessarily mean unsafe. So I'm interested in the particulars regarding the failed safety inspections, if anyone knows more.

Thanks for the information.
