1-day trip from Banaue to Sagada - possible?

Hello,

We have 2 days to spend in Banaue-Sagada area in the second part of November:

- we will arrive in the morning from Manila

- then we'll most likely see the rice terraces on the first day

- we have already booked our stay in Banaue

- on the second day we would like to see Sagada

- but on the evening we have to catch the night bus back to Manila

As I read here, the last bus from Sagada to Banaue leaves at 1 pm, so I have a few questions:

1 Is it possible to go back with a jeepney or some other transport later in the day?

2. Maybe it's possible to hire a jeepney or other transport from Banaue to Sagada for a whole 1-day round trip?

3. Do you know the prices for those?

4. Or maybe we should go to Manila from Sagada through Baguio - but I think the last bus is at the same time - 1 pm?

Any advice/information will be greatly appreciated.

I suggest that you drop Sagada.

If I am not wrong, going to Sagada from Banaue need aboyt 2 to 3 hours. So two way will be 6 hours Unless you hire a jeepney. This means in the day you reach Banaue, do a quick tour and off you go to Sagada.

Return to Banaue the next dayvreaching no later than 1600hrs to catch the bus back to Manila.

You can hire a jeepney Banaue-Sagada-Banaue, cost is no more than 5,500 ask at the tourism office/center of Banaue

weekenddriver - Thank you for the jeepney price! I guess we will do that

mousehunt - Thanks for the advice but we already paid for our stay in Banaue so we have to sleep there

So I guess there's definitely no bus after 1 pm :(

In that case, I suggest you go to Batad instead.

Hello again!

Just in case anyone is wondering: we did go to Sagada in November 2013 :)

We met some other people and we hired a jeepney for 7 people. We left Banaue early in the morning - 7.30 am. The drive to Sagada took us ca. 3 hours. In Sagada we saw the hanging coffins and we did the spelunking in Samaguing Cave and then we went back to Banaue. We were there ca. 5.30-6.00 pm, so we still had some time to eat dinner before our bus to Manila at 7 pm.

So if anyone is thinking about such trip - it is possible, however you have to organise it a day earlier.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact price we paid, but it was quite cheap as we were a big group. I think it was ca. 700 pesos per person - 5000 pesos for the whole group. The price included the jeepney and the guide in Sagada.

Weekenddriver - your price estimate was spot on! Thank you for the suggestion!

Glad that you made it but you are missing a lot in Sagada.

Having said that, now there is a reason for you to be back in Ifugao.

Anita, glad you made it... but i don't recommend a day tour Sagada at the same day of your bus departure. What if a land slide block the road and takes the next day to clear?

If I had a choice, I would do it on a different day, so that we don't have to worry about catching the bus.

But it was our only chance to see Sagada, so we took the risk.

For us everything worked out fine and we had a fantastic experience.

I wrote down how we did it for people who might be interested if it is possible to organise such trip.

Anyway, you have been there and done that. Good for you.

I have a similar experience where I went to Batad and back to Manila within a day.

Many express disbelief when I did that but I find it worthwhile.

So just go for it! :)
