I just changed plans. At first I was thinking about traveling from the airport to Polonnaruwa.
But I think travelling to Anuradhapura and then south-east will be more efficient...
I started looking for the best way to get there and found out we could get there by bus or train.
This is what I found (after that, my questions)
1) by taxi – train
Take taxi or tuktuk to Colombo or Gampaha railway station.
Colombo – Anuradhapura: 06:50 – 10:03
Colombo – Anuradhapura: 13:15 – 18:11
Price: 1st/2th class: 520Rs./290Rs.
Gampaha – Anuradhapura: 07:19 – 10:03
Gampaha – Anuradhapura: 10:33 – 16:43
Gampaha – Anuradhapura: 13:51 – 18:11
Price: 1st/2th class: 460Rs./260Rs.
2) by bus (bus from Colombo to Anuradhapura is a 5 hours drive, so it will be less from Negombo)
Take taxi (2500Rs.) or tuktuk (800Rs.) to Negombo
Take bus 4-3 to Anuradhapura (via Puttalam).
Arriving in Anuradhapura: I guess around 13:00
Now I have some questions:
We would like to get there as fast as possible (but also cheap).
We arrive at the airport at 05:05 so we probably won't be able to get to in time to the railway station for the first train. The other trains arrive at Anuradhapura around 17:00 or 18:00.
I was reading the bus will be faster.
But figuring out which bus you should take isn't that simple. I found lots of different ways to get there. The one I put on my list is the one I think was the fastest. But now the question is: does it still exists? Is it a busy line? Does the bus drives frequently and where do we have to get on in Negombo and get off in Anuradhapura (to visit the old city)? And am I correct with my idea of time shedule?
If anyone has other ideas, I will be happy to hear them!
