See

around 212-214. Which means the rate abroad e.g. in UK is horrible but that's logical; rupee is 'closed' as currency and officially not even allowed to import more than Rs 5,000. Hence bring pound and exchange in Lanka, the airport banks are open 24/7.

All the best,

It's about 214-215 can exchange anywhere you see a sign. 'Authorised money changers'

Nope as the official banks don't accept. Money changers in towns, often jewelry stores, do accept at a decent rate (about 2 to 1).

Suggest you get your money changed in SL at a authorized money changer. Their rates are much better compare with the local banks.

Best Rgds.

I will arrived CMB at around 23:00 and after immigration & customs, it will be mid-night. Will I be able to get money exchange at the airport? I'm from Hong Kong, shall I bring HKD, or USD or EUR for money exchange?

Hi there,

1] Yes the desks are open 24/7. Some risk you need to watch carefully behind the counter and gently wake up an employee ;-) but hey it's not unlogical behaviour of them is it?

2] HKD will give best rate for you, because you avoid the extra commission of an intermediate exchanging round.

Thanks. Another question, is it O.K. to get a taxi from airport to Colombo city (Pelawatte) or shall I book hotel pick-up?
