travel in June,July,August,?

Hello, I had planned to fly to New Delhi in May (from

Northern California), for a minor medical procedure and

of course do some sight seeing while there. As it

turns out, I may not be free to travel until June or July.

Is it still possible to enjoy sightseeing in the area despite

the monsoon weather? The Taj Mahal is a must, as

well as sites in Delhi itself. What special preparations

should I make? (rainwear, etc?)

Thanks, Ruthanna

Well, I would be more worried abou the heat than the rains.

The rains do not hit the North of India (Delhi, Agra Rajasthan) until Mid or early July. While, you can expect temperatures to be well over 40 Degress (think 110 plus).

Would not disuade you from visiting the Taj Mahal, take an A/C train or an A/C car and catch Taj at the break of dawn.

Delhi again should be explored early in the mornings or late evenings.

Also, book comfortable hotels with A/C's, better the hotel.. better th cooling systems.

If you are looking at a week or two week holiday look at visiting the Himalayas. (Dharmshala, Manali and regions) Or Kerala could be nice too, it be raining, but at it's pretty best not hot and you will get some awesome deals.

Feel Free to ask more specific questions or PM and I could help you further.

you are welcome in India, june and july is very good weather. you can enjoy the rain here as well. you need to carry umbrella and raincoat. As Deepa said it is not all the day long but you never know bout it. but not too hot and not too cold.

The rains tend to come mid to late July, usually it's just heavy for an hour or so, give it another hour and the rain clears up and it's hot and humid, sometimes with a slight breeze. 2010 though brought flooding to some northern regions and services like trains etc could be disrupted. From April to June it depends to searingly hot and dry, ESP in may it was around 46 during the day and 42 c at night for 2 weeks, tough even with ac!

We toured this area 18 months ago in July/August. It depends on the year. We did 15 days and didn't see any rain. The heat is bad, but no unbearable if you are staying in Aircon hotels.

Abbas, Raja, Jazz 300, Shanu and AgraTravel: Thanks very much

for the helpful replies to my question, Travel during the

Monsoon period....I see the benefits, and will not be daunted..

appreciate, too, the suggestions re. places to go. Am interested

in the Himalaya area, as well as the Taj. As said, I grew up

in the American Southwest, so am somewhat acclimated to temerature

extremes (hot and humid in the summer)...although am "spoiled"

now by balmy weather in Northern California. And, as said,

rain can be exhilarating.

Thanks again.

Hi there I have lost count of the number of places I have been to during monsoons, blizzards, heatwaves etc. Its all part of the experience. i went to India in November and conditions were ideal but at the end of the day all you need is a rain mac, a good umbrella.. The heat will probably be the worth part of it. Agra is stunning and there is loads more to see in the town. Check out nearby fatepur sikri.

have a great trip
