13days in Delhi

We are 2 females who are planning a trip to Delhi and are kind of lost now and hoping for some direction and help from you experts who have been there!

These are what we would like:

Delhi > Agra > Jaipur > Udaipur or Pushkar (whichever is nicer?) > Delhi

We need help on accomodation (would love to experience one night in an ashram or do a homestay!), mode of transport (one of us can drive but not confident so we'll stick to using other modes) between cities (maybe flying is best?), or is it best we stick to booking a tour? We're afraid it could get very expensive considering the long trip!

Hoping to get some good advice and if you need more info from us, please feel free to ask. :)

Thank you all in advance!

The home stay option in South Delhi would be a good way to have a gentler introduction to India.

You could consider travelling first to Udaipur from Delhi and then to Jaipur and onto Agra and back to Delhi. Train would be ideal but best to pre-book specially overnight trains. You have not specified when you are travelling.

At Jaipur you could find an inexpensive heritage property to stay at. At Udaipur there are several places by the Lake which you could consider.

Udaipur is a good place to stay and you can avoid Pushkar. Pushkar is good during fair. Sequence you have mentioned is right but it can be done other way also.

Between the cities you can hire car or good will be travel by bus or train.

For trains between cities you can look at www.cleartrip.com or www.irctc.co.in

hello, i really suggest you contact a local indian tour operator who can customize an itinerary just for you and your travel companion, complete with transportation (car&driver, train/plane, hotel/ashram/homestay, places to see, guides if you wish etc.). all of this at a much lower cost than an organized tour.

we used an excellent tour operator in August that i highly recommend. it is called Icon India Tours (http://www.iconindiatours.com/). Sabu the owner is extremely reliable, trustworthy and responsible.

if you would like to read my family trip review, you can read it here:

good luck with your trip planning, Jo

I am not in love with Udaipur, having been there twice. If you go, stay a day, tops two.

I haven't been in years, but look at Jaselmer, even thought it is much further away.

Take high quality buses, trains or a car with a driver, which isn't as expensive as you think.

There is a good train Delhi/Agra and a new expressway. You can hire a taxi for the day in Agra but they really rip off tourists.

Much cheaper to go on your own than on a tour. And more fun, too.

8. Re: 13days in Delhi

Thank you everybody for your replies!

The month I'm traveling in is mid Jan.

Are organized tours cheaper than doing everything by ourselves?

Right now we intend to take the train between cities and hire a cab for the day at each place.

Updated Itin: Delhi - Varanasi - Agra - Jaipur - pushkar (maybe) - Jodhpur -Jaisalmer - Udaipur - Delhi. Let me know if the direction is wrong please.

Regarding home stays, is it safe/ recommended for two females? Any renowned agencies we can trust?

Ashrams: any specific ones in the cities we are going that we should experience?

Do u know if there any reliable cab companies we can hire from?
