Buying Train tickets at the International Tourist Bureau, ND

My enquiry relates to the availabilty of train tickets from the International Tourist Bureau situated at the New Delhi train station.

Are there always some reserved tickets set aside/ available for foreign tourists or is it possible to front up at the International Tourist Bureau and be told that there are no available tickets?

I have given up trying to buy them on the internet and would actually prefer to buy them directly at New Delhi train station, if I can be assured that I can get tickets.

Regards,

Darryl

It is possible that you may not get the tickets. As there are fixed no. of seats/ Berths in few trains for foriegn tourists.

Hi Darryl - We too have problems booking the tickets online back home and tried to do what you have intended to do - buy at the station. Being first time there, it was such a hassle - trying to locate the office and touts coming after you claiming the office is not there, direct you to the office outside the station, etc. In the end, we booked thru a travel agency near our hotel buy paying some fee (Rps200-300) on top of the train ticket. Convenient and hassle free.

You should check first availability of seats in tourist quota : www.indianrail.gov.in

If seats are available then surely you would be able to get confirm train tickets from tourist quota. As tourist quota seat allocation is just for a few seats ( many trains does not have tourist quota) so you have to book it at earliest.

Be careful , offices outside New Delhi Station.
